Barcodes are the familiar technology used in nearly every store checkout. RFID’s or Radio Frequency Identification tags are very small labels that perform the same functions as bar codes without requiring line-of-sight from the reader. RFID’s will be rapidly replacing bar codes in the future. RFID’s will be required for all items sold by Walmart, or items purchased by large organizations such as General Motors and the Department of Defense.
